A joint pumpkin/soft fruit workshop is going to be held at Bellis Brothers Farm, Wrexham (https://www.bellisbrothers.co.uk/) on the 31st July. This will be an excellent opportunity to see an active pick your own business in the main period of summer trading. The workshop will be split into two sessions: in the morning we will focus on soft fruit production and the afternoon we will focus on pumpkin. You are welcome to attend both or either session depending on what is relevant to your business. Both sessions will include a crop walk led by Chris Creed and the host grower, but we will also cover how PYO sales of both pumpkin and soft fruit are managed at Bellis.

The soft fruit session in the afternoon will focus on a range of PYO fruit topics. We will explore variety choices for PYO strawberry, how nutrition can be used to manage the crop in high summer and plant training including runner and canopy management. We will also take a closer look at an established IDPM pest management program.

In the afternoon we will look at working with an established pumpkin crop, including managing nutrition during vegetative growing and how to manage weeds during production. We will also look at how cultivars can be chosen for a PYO business.

The workshop is free for Tyfu Cymru network members, and lunch will be provided between the two sessions - please let us know if you have any specific dietary needs. The workshop will also be eligible for BASIS/NRoSO points.
